- Hellnotes
- https://hellnotes.com/
- Loads of stuff about horror, including publishers and markets.
- Index to Science Fiction Anthologies & Collections
- http://www.philsp.com/
- Database of SF short stories, searchable by author, title, magazine, date. This is just part of the overall "fiction index" hosted on this site, which enables you to look up stories and authors by name, story title, or publication - and one leads to the other. I.e., if you wanted to look up the author "John Smith," you'll get a list of all the stories John Smith wrote and published, and where; if you click on a magazine that "John Smith" appeared in, you can then get a table of contents for that magazine issue (and the rest of the issues of that magazine), to find other stories by other authors, and on and on... It's amazing. Put together back when folks loved spending time putting information on the web for the rest of us.

- Online version of the major trade publication for the SF publishing industry.

- 56 columns on world-building.
- Chronos: The Future of Time Travel
- http://Chronos.ws
- Billed as "the ultimate guide to time travel, teleportation, temporal phasing, and other applications of nine-dimensional theory," this site apparently takes itself seriously -- but does offer a wealth of information on time travel theory.
- On Thud and Blunder, by Poul Anderson
- https://www.sfwa.org/2005/01/on-thud-and-blunder/
- One of the classics, pointing out the difference between fantasy and reality (e.g., can you really hack off heads with a 50-pound sword?)
- SFWA Articles on Writing
- https://www.sfwa.org/other-resources/for-authors/information-center/
- Uncle Orson's Writing Class
- http://www.hatrack.com/writingclass/index.shtml
- Lots of writing articles by Orson Scott Card.
- Vision for Writers

|
- Clarion Writer's Workshop

- The first in the highly regarded Clarion family of workshops for sf/fantasy writers.
- Critters Workshop
- http://www.critters.org
- This highly recommended workshop focuses primarily on speculative fiction (though it offers other workshops as well). The site offers sample critiques, tips on critiquing and participating in a group, and market information (including the "Black Hole" page that lists response times for speculative fiction markets). Considered a "high-intensity" group with high workload demands.
- L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the Future Online Workshop
- https://www.writersofthefuture.com/writing-workshop/
- The course includes 13 video presentations featuring Writers of the Future judges: David Farland, Tim Powers, and Orson Scott Card. There are 11 lessons with practical exercises as well as essays from Contest Founder, L. Ron Hubbard, and Founding Contest Coordinating Judge, Algis Budrys. The workshop takes one through the entire process of writing a story. Upon completion, we recommend entering the Writers of the Future Contest.

Becoming a successful writer isn't just about mastering great writing skills. It's also about overcoming the challenges and obstacles of the writing life: Rejection, fear of failure, lack of time, writer's block, the "Am I Really a Writer?" syndrome, and, of course, friends and family who just don't get it.
Fortunately, you're not alone. We've all been there. So here's a handy "survival guide" that will bring you inspiration, motivation, support and good old-fashioned advice to help you through the tough times. Don't let those writing gremlins keep you from achieving your dreams!
